What: February Komiket Date: February 24 and 15, 2018 Time: 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM Venue: Elements at Centris, Quezon City Organizer: Komiket Inc. My first Komiket experience was just fine. I wasn’t able to reach my target sales and wasn’t able to achieve ROI. Kind of felt that my works were unappreciated or inappropriate for Komiket. There were so many artists, around 500 I guess, and based on my speculations, there were bigger number of artists than of the attendees. The registration fee was so expensive and we were given so little space that three artists had to share in one table only. If I’m going to compare this to free cons I attended before like Elbikon and Zine Orgy, I can say that those are better and more practical. Also, the bad experience I had on Day 1 was, I ate something sold inside the hall and just few hours after the food intake, I felt like I had stomach flu, so on Day 2, I wasn’t really feeling well. I’m just so glad that my friend helped me and assisted me with the customers. The only nice thing I could say is that, artists from Komiket are very friendly. And they are all supportive. We buy each other’s works and even had an “art trade”. It was a nice experience after all. For more details of the event, please click here. GALLERY: What: Elbikon 2018 Date: February 16, 2018 Time: 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM Venue: Baker Hall, University of the Philippines, Los Banos Organizer: Graphic Literature Guild This is the first time that I was able to visit other artists’ booths. On my past Elbikon experience, I was only always at my assigned table, and I didn’t regret that I got out of my space because I saw how wonderful the works of other artists are. I saw witty and very nice stickers, art prints, very Instagram worthy presentation of art merch, and very interesting zines. For a cheap registration fee, I can say that this is so worth it. 2018 Elbikon is my 3rd Elbikon experience and even though I’m already a UPLB Alumna, I can feel that I will continue participating in events such as this. (even if I got really old hehe) There were so many artists who participated and the talks prepared by other artists were helpful to other amateur artists like me. My whole 2018 Elbikon Experience was great! Congratulations, Graphic Literature Guild, and to other artists who participated in 2018 Elbikon! For more details, please click here. Date: May 11. 2017, Thursday Time: 6:00 PM to 12:00 Midnight Venue: 77 Events Place, Grove, Los Banos, Laguna Organizers: Asshulz, Magpies, UPLB Com Arts Society The event was fun because aside from the ~ahrt~, there were cool performances by UPLB Com Arts Soc that tackled more about the society, especially in the field of politics. There was an open mic, performances, those who played their original songs, and so on. Like during my usual exhibit, I wasn’t able to roam around and purchase from other artists because there’s no one who can look after my place and art merch. So, I just stayed there, and enjoyed watching people. For the PHOTOS, click HERE. What: Toska: A Mental Health Art Exhibit When: April 6 and 7, 2017, 8AM to 11PM Where: Commune Café, Commune Poblacion, Makati Toska is an art exhibit for a cause that featured 70 artists (including me) and all the proceeds were allocated to support people with mental illness. The door opened around 8AM and closed at 11PM. It had special performances by: derNULLmeridian Fawley Studio 9 Murphy Katigbak Wina Wonders Personal Experience: It was such a wonderful experience. I was thinking before on how can I serve the country in my own little ways and finally, through this, I was able to do something good while enjoying doing my passion. I got inspired by this event that I thought maybe one day, I could also organize an art exhibit like this. There were many young Filipinas who has been doing great services to our fellowmen through arts like Marika of Woman, Create, the "Cancervants" that aimed at helping cover hospitalization costs and medical procedures needed by kids, and a lot more. Another reason why I joined Toska is because it is focused on people who has mental illnesses. It made me remember my best friend who suffered from depression and wasn't able to finish her study because of it. I also remembered the time I needed a professional help and advice but my mom brushed it off and called me overdramatic. I wanted to help people who wanted to seek professional help and couldn’t afford it because I know how frustrating it is how to feel like you don’t have anything or anyone to hold on to. I felt alive during the event. I met other artists and saw their works; and from their works, I got more ideas and inspiration. I also learned a lot of things on how they created their works and I was inspired to do paintings again. I am still in the process of mastering my style using graphite pencil but maybe it’s now time for me to give painting a second shot. Thank you, Toska for this wonderful experience. Gallery: What: Elbikon 2017 Date: February 18, 2017 Time: 10AM to 5PM Where: Baker Hall, UPLB My second time to participate at Elbikon. Like before, it was fun and all the hardships were worth it. I wasn’t able to roam around to see other artists’ works because the struggle to get up from my seat was real. You may see below the photos I took using my iPad so I apologize for having low quality pictures. Thank you so much to all my friends who supported my works and to other people who purchased my artworks. Hope to see you all again next Elbikon. :) Me at my booth :) My works: A closer look
