NOVUS APHRODITE PUDICA (11.17.2016)

"What spirit is so empty and blind, that it cannot recognize the fact that the foot is more noble than the shoe, and skin more beautiful that the garment with which it is clothed?"
—Michelangelo Novus Aphrodite Pudica was inspired by the 4th Century BC, Venus Pudica. Venus Pudica is a kind of nude art which means Modest Venus highlighting a female's body covering her pubis with her right hand. However, Novus is a Latin word for "modern" and I hope to display the modern modest females in this collection. A woman’s naked body has become a sexual objectification and is being evaluated more frequently. It has been an instrument for sexual pleasure and I would want you to see |
more behind a woman’s naked body; that a woman’s body is her own and not anyone else’s; and that a woman is not an object that should be dressed per the preference of society and men.
I am hoping that the subjects shown in this collection will stop the dichotomization of a bad and a good woman; and I am also eager that through this mini exhibit, it will make you derestrict a woman’s creativity and freedom. I began this description with a quotation, let me close this with a quotation as well. “Nude is a form of art. Porn is a tool to satisfy your lust” —Unknown |
