Once again, I volunteered to UPHILSAMS, an organization of Agronomy majors from UP Los Banos, to their outreach activity for the selected children of Ronggot Elementary School. Ronggot is a small place in Brgy. Lecheria located in the Municipality of Calamba. This place is hard to reach due to its narrow, rocky, and bumpy road that you can just either go here via Motorcycle, through walking (a very long walk), and/ or by hiring a tricycle for P150. It took me almost 35 minutes to go there via Tricycle and while walking will take you for an hour to reach the place. The kids were already set when I got there. Some of the parents were also present to witness this activity. I helped the others to organize the chairs for the kids and helped assembling the tent (it was scorching hot that time and the place is near Laguna Bay). When we were done organizing everything and placing the things into its right places, we already started our little program. We started it by a prayer, giving thanks to our mighty God, who made this outreach activity possible, followed by some guidelines to follow. After that, we had a little game, which was really fun because it was interactive. I can see the joy in these children’s faces and another thing that made my heart even warmer is that, when there were children who ran to me and hugged me only to say that I look pretty. Haha! It was really touching, to receive a compliment from kids, and with their smile on their faces, who wouldn’t melt, right? Besides, I was already melting under the sun in the first place. Lol. After the game, we started distributing school supplies to the kids. We also distributed lunch since we already finished distributing all the materials around 11 AM. It was a fun activity. The happiness of those kids was so priceless and it was too overwhelming for me. I was filled with joy, happiness, satisfaction, and contentment. After we closed the program, we had some photo ops, ate pancit, and even bought singkamas at a sari-sari store! I know that with a simple outreach services like what we did can make a real difference to these children. It is more motivating to study and to continue going to school when they know there are people who wants to support them with their dreams. Keep dreaming, kids! SHARE THIS ARTICLE:
