We are very much aware that a lot of teenagers are suffering from Mental illness. There are a lot of types of Mental Illnesses which also have different causes. These past few years, it also became significant to people that people started paying more attention to this kind of problem. A lot of people are also starting to make a campaign and write touching and educational stories that will make us all aware of what a mental illness is and what can we do to the person suffering from a mental illness. Depression, Anxiety, Panic Disorders, Bipolar Disorder, Substance Abuse and Addiction, are just some of the many mental health illnesses, but we also have to pay attention to teen eating disorders, as this seem to be the most dangerous of all. The US News discussed about Eating Disorder amongst teenagers as it is becoming more alarming. On January 4, 2018, US News stated that Eating Disorders are the deadliest of the mental illness and that this kind of illness is common in teenagers, ages 12 to 25 and for females, between 15 to 24 years old suffers from anorexia. The mortality rate with the illness is 12 times higher than the death rate of all other causes of death. Per USNews.com, eating disorders relate to substance abuse, suicide, and depression. Because eating disorders are symptoms of underlying causes, they are frequently linked with other teen mental health challenges. A study from National Institute of Mental Health says that 10, 000 teenagers (ages 13 to 18) with eating disorders found that as many as 88% reported suffering from anxiety, depression, or behavioral disorder. Moreover, about a third of those with bulimia, 15% of those with binge eating, and 8% of those with anorexia had attempted suicide. In addition to that, teens with eating disorders are at greater risk for substance abuse. According to a report from the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University, as many as 50% of those with an eating disorder, also abuse drugs. Looking at it from other direction, just over one-third of individuals with substance abuse disorder also have eating disorder. These are all stated on US News Health section. On our era, we teenagers are becoming more aware of the social demands for what the society think is an ideal figure. We have set a standard of what body type should be called sexy, hot, or not. We have to understand, that the teen years are a fertile ground for an eating disorder to grow. Numerous elements on this phase occur like stress, insecurity, societal pressures, and even athletic competitions may contribute to disordered eating patterns. This should not be ignored. The exact cause of eating disorder is often a mystery with complex factors at the root of the condition making it challenging to identify the origin. The societal emphasis on being a certain size and shape can touch a young person’s sense of self that can lead to disordered eating habits just to meet the society’s expectations. But we can stop this slowly and help those who suffer from eating disorders by boosting their self-esteems and for simply not bullying them or for stopping the name callings. It should also start from our role models, like our parents, should be the number one supporting their children and accepting for whom their children are, or how they look. Second are our teachers. Teachers also play a vital role on making the students aware of these things, and a constant reminder to make everyone feel good about them will be a good help. Let us all start the change within ourselves. Let us start to change and help our co teenagers rise and feel good about them. A little compliment won’t harm and it might take a long way. You are beautiful, inside and out! Keep shining! SHARE THIS BLOG: April 5, 2018, I turned 24, and even though I can see my lines are multiplying on my face, I felt wonderful that another year has been added to my life.
I treated my birthday as if it was a normal day, as if nothing’s special about it, as if it’s just a mere social construct (even maybe it could be partly true) but it is different this time. How can anyone’s birthday be a normal day? A blessing to someone was born on this day and it deserves to be celebrated. Last year, I was really motivated and so focused on my own betterment. I do well at work (I know I still do well at work now but not as good as before), I always go to the gym after work, and had a healthy lifestyle. I was a matured, responsible, independent woman last year but due to unavoidable scenarios, my life crumbled and started to lose myself.
In High School or College Set-Up, our professors love group activities and it's very noticeable those who really work for the project and those who don't.
